  • Primary Application: Used to remove high-temperature bottom ash, slag, and clinker that drops directly from the furnace throat of coal-fired boilers and incinerators.
  • Operating Principle: The conveyor is housed within a fully enclosed water-filled steel trough (the horizontal section) to cool the extremely hot ash (up to ).
  • Conveyance Mechanism: High-strength chains and flights/scrapers (or a specialized submerged belt) run along the bottom of the trough, continuously dragging the settled ash along its path at a very low speed.
  • Cooling & Sealing: The water acts as both a quenching medium to rapidly cool the ash and as an air seal for the boiler, preventing the ingress of air that could disrupt combustion.
  • Dewatering Section: The conveyor structure includes an inclined section (visible in the image) where the cooled, wet ash is lifted out of the water, allowing excess water to drain back into the trough for recirculation.
  • Key Benefits: Provides continuous, dust-free removal of abrasive, hot material, reduces the risk of fire, and consumes less power and water than traditional hydraulic sluicing systems.
  • Construction: Built from robust, heavy-duty steel (often lined with highly abrasion-resistant materials like Cast Basalt) to withstand the harsh, corrosive, and abrasive environment.

Description

The Submerged Belt Conveyor, or often a Submerged Scraper Chain Conveyor (SSCC), is a crucial piece of mechanical equipment in a power plant’s ash handling system, specifically dedicated to the continuous and safe removal of bottom ash from the boiler. This robustly constructed conveyor is built into a long, heavy-duty, water-filled trough directly beneath the furnace. Its core function is a synchronized process of extinguishing, cooling, and transporting ash and clinker that can fall from the boiler at scorching temperatures (up to ). The water bath instantly quenches the hot material and, simultaneously, suppresses dust emissions while creating a necessary water seal to prevent air leakage into the furnace. The material is then gently scraped or carried along the trough by a powerful chain or belt assembly to the elevated, inclined section. This incline serves to lift the ash out of the water, initiating the dewatering process before the cooled, moist material is discharged for final disposal or crushing.
